To get what you want, deserve what you want.

This evening we were recording a podcast episode with Jay Ducote, a nationally acclaimed food blogger, radio show host and culinary personality. His story starts at a desk job where he began journaling what he had for lunch each day on a Blogger site back in 2009. Seven years later, he has been on Food Network Star, MasterChef and several other networks and has grown his blog, Bite and Booze, into a media company with its hands in radio, writing, video, speaking and cooking.

But the thing is, his success didn’t come overnight. He worked for it. He put in the hours after work at his desk job. He knew what he wanted and he earned it. One reader at a time.

Charlie Munger, Warren Buffett’s business partner and one of the world’s greatest investors, lives by the philosophy, "To get what you want, deserve what you want. Trust, success, and admiration are earned."

Because of the internet sensation stories that sweep Facebook and Buzzfeed, it can be easy to become disillusioned by this idea of immediate fame or overnight success. But sometimes, it’s not about going viral. Sometimes it’s about showing up every week consistently. Only with time can you truly build a foundation of trust and respect and begin to deserve that which you want.
