Why you should think 500 years into the future.

There is an organization called The Long Now Foundation who's sole mission is to foster long-term thinking and responsibility in the framework of the next 10,000 years.

Anyone else thinking or planning beyond the next 50 years? Not me. But what if we did? Thinking within the time-line of the next 50-80 years limits our imagination of what's possible. What if we opened our mind to think of projects that might take 200 years to complete? What if we imagined a project life cycle that lasted 500 years? Would we be afraid of starting something because we wouldn't see its conclusion? Or would it open our mind to the possibilities of projects that could impact generations?

What could you do this year that would be remembered 500 years from now?

Ask yourself that question. It might not be realistic or practical but I hope that, at the very least, it will stretch the boundaries of our imaginations.
